Blue Lake, California is approximately 280 miles north of San Francisco on Highway 101 and five miles east on Highway 299. Students can enjoy beautiful beaches, forests and the wild rivers of the North Coast while attending workshops.

Enrollment for the workshop is limited.  Please apply as early as possible. We require full payment in advance for each workshop, fully refundable until three weeks before the workshop begins.
Cancellations made less than three weeks before each workshop begins are subject to a $50 cancellation fee for each week of the workshop. (If Dell'Arte must cancel your workshop, or you are not accepted into a workshop, the full amount will be refunded.)

If you experience difficulties with our online enrollment page, you may enroll via email or telephone: please contact Nicholette Routhier, Registrar, at nicholette@dellarte.com or (707)668-5663.

Apply early!  Workshops that do not meet minimum enrollment three weeks before the workshop start date will be canceled. We cannot be responsible for air tickets booked for workshops that are canceled; we advise taking travel insurance, which is usually offered at a small cost and covers a ticket refund in the event a workshop is canceled.

There will be an orientation with the school workshop coordinator one half-hour prior to the start of class on the first day of the workshop.

Students should plan on spending some evenings doing laboratory work, or working on class assignments and projects.  There may be classes or coaching sessions on weekends at the discretion of the instructor, but there will be time for recreation, exploring the area and relaxation. Once you have enrolled, you will be advised of exact schedules.

ARRIVING BY AIR: Arcata/Eureka airport (ACV) is about 20 minutes away from Dell'Arte. Airport shuttles can transport you to Blue Lake for $22 one way. All shuttle trips require 24-hour reservation; call  1-707-839-4186.  Have your flight numbers ready when you call.

ARRIVING BY BUS: If you are arriving by bus, you need to make early arrangements with the DAI Housing Manager at least 2 weeks before you arrive. dharla@dellarte.com

ARRIVING BY CAR: Check our map here or email us for directions.

BLUE LAKE HOUSING & FEE DETAILS

Dell’Arte  provides summer workshop housing rentals in our student housing rentals, as well as with families in Blue Lake.  These are typical student rooms, complete with mismatched  furnished rooms,  with shared kitchen and bath. Meals are not included, but there is a couple coffee shops, a restaurant and we will take you shopping weekly.  We can also provide a list of local motels.

Full payment for housing is due at least the same time you are registering for your workshop.

Dell'Arte is located in the small town (population 1,300) of Blue Lake. It has only one hotel: the Blue Lake Casino Hotel. There are no camping facilities; the nearest of these are 6 miles away in the town of Arcata, home to Humboldt State University.

Dell'Arte housing is in limited supply.
Apply (and pay for housing) early to ensure a room.

Dell'Arte has available a limited number of two bedroom furnished apartments  ($650 a room) and an old nine-bedroom hotel ($550 a room), normally used by Dell'Arte students during the academic year, to provide workshop housing.  All are located within two blocks of Dell'Arte. You will have a private room with a shared kitchen and bathroom. Some rooms are available in private homes* willing to rent a room for summer students, so you may be placed in a spare room in the home of a local resident. Please contact Dharla Curry at dharla@dellarte.com for reservations for the "Hotel" and the apartments.

No phone service is provided in DAI student housing.  Internet service is available in some of the housing and in the "Hotel". There are two computers for student use at the school, plus an accessible wireless network both at DAI and the local cafe.

Workshop participants are expected to bring their own towels, though bedding is provided.  No food is included in any of these lodgings, so plan on either shopping on your own, or joining in the weekly grocery runs provided by DAI in summer.   No pets and no smoking are allowed in these buildings, and guests are not permitted without previous arrangement.

PAYMENT:
Payment for housing is required at at the time you register for the workshop, and rooms will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. If no housing is available we will contact you before processing your payment. If workshop is cancelled, or you are not accepted into a workshop, the full amount sent to Dell'Arte will be refunded.
Prices include a $50 refundable cleaning deposit, that you can get back if you leave the housing as you found it.

HOUSING FEES:    4 weeks: $650/Apartments, $550 "Hotel"     (If you arrive early or stay late, extra days are pro-rated based on the month's fee.)

Arrival/departure days:

Check-in is after 2 PM of the day before your workshop starts.
Departures: no later than noon on the day following the last day of your workshop.

Other arrangements need to be made in advance.

Our housing coordinator will send you a letter of confirmation and directions when we receive your payment. Please note that our summer festival is during the same time as the workshop  and housing will be at a premium at those times. It is not possible to camp at Dell'Arte, in the woods, on the river, or in your car or van while you are taking a workshop at Dell'Arte. Write or email us for a list of state, county, and KOA campgrounds within 15 – 30 minutes.
